I won't be writing too much about the village of Eastmain yet. I feel that there is more to the story then what I can put into words at the moment and I want to give the people of the village the same respect they have given me in my short stay. In the meantime I can give you a quick photo sample of what the last two days have been like around Eastmain.
Monday was spent meeting the band council to make sure I wouldn't offend or scare anyone in the village with my camera gear. I have to admit that the sense of community in this village is very refreshing and they made me feel like I grew up among them.
Tuesday was a great morning of clearing skies, warmer weather and excellent views. I loaded up my Domke Photog vest and took off onto the streets. Through out the morning I got some great images of the village and surrounding areas. In the afternoon I loaded up my Lowepro Rover Pro 45L with all my gear and headed on a hike out to the point, where James Bay meets Eastmain river. While on my way out of town I was joined by a sweet young husky puppy, I'm guessing around 6 or 8 months old. She followed me out to the point, by my side the whole time. On the way back she ran ahead, but would stop anytime I was out of sight. I found her either waiting for me to come around the corners or she would come back to check on me. What a wonderful experience. I was even able to get her to pose for me several times, including with me while I looked out of the point.
